Marin Diverse Books Project

Marin's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access committee (IDEA for short) is working to add more books featuring diverse characters and experiences to the classroom libraries at Marin. Traditionally, children's literature has not reflected the diversity of its audience, but every year this is improving. We want to make sure that Marin classroom libraries are places where all of our kids can see themselves reflected in the books. Every year Marin teachers will have the opportunity to preview books featuring a range of diverse experiences and characters, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native, people of color, gender diversity, differently-abled people, and people from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. Pegasus Books has provided preview copies of books for every elementary school grade, and reading level -- many published within the last year. Teachers will review the books throughout next week and choose 1 (or more) books to add to their libraries. The PTA will purchase the books and deliver them to the teachers in February.

If you would like to learn more about the books or purchase them yourselves, please put MARIN in the comment field when you order books from Pegasus  -- Pegasus will donate 20% of the cost of each book to Marin to support this program.
